Entering the fair grounds for the first time was quite an experience. Buildings of all shapes and sizes quickly came into view. Some were ornate with domed roofs and arched entrances. Others were simple huts and teepees that made use of bamboo and animal skins.

Fair president David Francis described the effect of all these buildings as 'first bewildering, then fascinating.' Few would disagree.
